Danielle Krysa is a Canadian artist with a BFA in Visual Arts and a post-grad degree in design. She creates mixed media work, with most of her materials coming from the shelves of small town thrift shops. Danielle takes these orphaned objects back to her studio, and then transforms them into collages, paintings, textiles and even the occasional sculpture. In recent years, Danielle's work has focused on the awe-inspiring strength and resiliency of women, often with a dash of humor and a well-placed curse word when required.

“My latest series is a love letter to my 14 year old self. She was young and curious and excited to grow up, but wasn’t really allowed. We all had the pressure of being “good girls” — sure, “Boys will be boys”, but I’ve still never heard “Girls will be girls”. These mixed media paintings — all centered around my childhood-turned-teenage bedroom — have been created to give her room to blossom. Flocked wallpaper and girly knick-knacks given by grandparents, with tiny hints of sexual curiosity peeking through here and there. With these 1980s-infused pieces I’m going to let her wish ridiculous wishes, allow her to be “boy crazy” and obsessed with crafts at the same time, and give her permission to be wildly dramatic. This time around I will simply love her for who she is — guilt and judgement free!” -Danielle Krysa
