Brittney Ciccone balances abstraction and abstract figurative painting to express the complexity of the human experience. Working with a range of mediums—oil paints, acrylics, and pastels—she creates pieces that merge spontaneity with intention, exploring the tension between what is seen and what is felt.
In her figurative works, Ciccone begins by closing her eyes, allowing her subconscious to guide her hand as she makes marks with charcoal. When she opens her eyes, she uncovers elusive figures within these marks, developing them with brushstrokes while leaving the original lines visible to preserve depth and rawness.
Her non-figurative works place texture at the forefront. Layers of paint are added and subtracted until the desired expression emerges. Often beginning with poured paint on a canvas laid flat, the work evolves as it moves upright. These layered compositions—whether dense or delicate—embody resilience and transformation.
As both painter and storyteller, Ciccone seeks to convey the multifaceted nature of the human experience. Her work invites viewers to engage with their own interpretations and emotions, reflecting life’s complexities and the profound depth of feeling.
